Stevedoring and storage
Hull Bulk Handling is a major stevedore of bulk materials on the East coast of England . Based on our 40 acre site adjacent to Queen Elizabeth Dock in the Port of Hull having priority berthing for vessels of up to 34,000 tonnes of cargo.
The company operates 24 hours per day, 7 days per week and offers a throughput capacity of 3 million tonnes per annum. The stock ground is capable of storing up to 500,000 tonnes at any one time. Our largest single contract is to handle 750,000 tonnes per annum of coal for despatch by rail to a major power station.
Bulk materials are discharged from ships' holds using two high-speed luffing grab cranes and deposited into travelling hoppers which then feed the main conveyor system, transferring the material 650 metres to our stocking site at a rate of up to 1,500 tonnes per hour. Alternatively, the material can be discharged directly from ship through hopper to lorry, or trans-shipped to barge or coaster. We guarantee an overall vessel discharge rate of 12,000 tonnes per weather working day.
Our stocking site incorporates a dedicated rail loading facility with a weighing in motion weighbridge, giving the capability to despatch by rail up to 50,000 tonnes per week. Other despatch from site is by heavy goods vehicles.
A feature of the discharge system is the incorporation of grizzly bars in the discharge hoppers and belt magnets on the conveyor system to remove ferrous metal and extraneous material contaminants from within cargoes. This is particularly important in preventing damage to the feeding plant at Power Stations.
Part of the stocking site comprises 4 acres of storage bays with tarmac hard-standing for specialist product segregation.
In addition to open storage we also offer warehouse storage facilities of up to 5,000 tonnes for specialist products such as bio fuels and animal feeds which require covered storage.
